This year’s Guest Speaker Series offers a wide variety of topics. Each speaker is highly acclaimed in his or her respective field and is eager to share their professional insights. The Guild gratefully thanks these talented individuals for sharing their time and distinguished talents in support of the Symphony Designer Showhouse.
Lectures are being held at the Residents’ Club in Coastal Oaks. Admission to one lecture of your choice is included with a tour of the Showhouse. You may attend additional lectures by purchasing a $5 unlimited return pass at the Showhouse Retail Boutique.
Monday, April 19: Walt Staheli, “Water Management for Green Concept Homeowners”
Walt Staheli, a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel and Civil Engineering graduate of The Citadel, has worked with the University of Florida in studying and testing ground sensing irrigation controllers for both residential and commercial use. He holds the title of Certified Green Professional through the NAHB.
Tuesday, April 20: Warren Caterson, “Partnership Cooking”
A full-time author and self described “foodie”, Warren has studied at the Southeast Institute of Culinary Arts. He makes his home in St Augustine. His current book is Table for Two – The Cookbook for Couples.
Wednesday, April 21: Neil Roberts, “The 5 S’s of Wine Tasting”
Neil Roberts will celebrate his 25th anniversary with PRP Wines in September. The Mississippian is both a respected wine consultant and host of wine tasting parties throughout the First Coast area.
Neil will be discussing the five S’s of wine tasting: see, smell, swirl, sip and swallow. Among his tips are some that will help conserve wines in the home, such as keeping them out of direct sunlight, away from vibration, and how to time the consumption of your wines.
Thursday, April 22: R. Dean Glassman, M.D., “Preserving Our Youth”
Dr. Glassman, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who studied at Georgetown University Medical Center, was also a recipient of a Fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. He currently serves as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville and is a Clinical Professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville.
Friday, April 23: Louise Johnson, “Stump the Designer”
A member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Louise studied extensively at Longwood Gardens. Louise is a noted landscape designer and horticulturist. She has spoken at prior Symphony Guild Showhouses and offers us a chance to “Stump the Designer!”

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, Michael is chef and owner of Opus 39, a restaurant and wine gallery in St Augustine. His innovative restaurant’s menu utilizes the best ingredients available daily. He is author of True to Flavor and will both speak and give the audience a cooking demonstration.
